Fingertips

Lately I've been writing a bunch of little song bits. they don't have any other parts to them, they are just a chorus or a few lines. They sound really cool and if I were more talented I could make them into full fledged songs. My first one was written a while back actually about being in the friend zone. I thought it was so clever and it got to use the name of a girl I once liked. Maybe I'll add the sound clips later but until then I'll give you the lyrics only.

The next one was a ditty about how I felt when I left the College program and a friend I had to part with. This one for some reason came with a strong Depeche Mode feel to it.

After that one I found myself being influenced by Adam Young and realizing I love lyrics that have a fun play on words or are just fun ways of looking at things. This first one came as I was looking at an ant in a snow storm. The second came from how I feel bad for the worms that come out in the rain and then get dried to death in the sun afterwards. Sad but it got me thinking about love.

I've been having a hell of a time staying friends with a girl in California. We've been having difficulty communicating, but no matter what happens we both want us to stay friends. We have such a thick past that it's hard to just let it dissolve so I wrote this next one.

So last night I found myself biking around and came up with latest one. It's got a bit of a Violent Femmes feel to it.

I love writing these bits of songs and I'm currently working on one about how a girl just can't listen and how she's either constantly talking or she's thinking about what she wants to say while I'm talking. It's going to be called, "You're not listening" We'll see if I can get something out.

For those wondering about the title of this post. Fingertips comes from the few songs found on the They Might Be Giants album Apollo 18 where they had a bunch of songs that they created but they would just stop. No other intentions to make them whole. So these have been my fingertips. Maybe someday I can make a whole hand.
